The Fellows of the Thin Films Society (TFS Fellow) are distinguished individuals who have established a reputation or track record of success in the field of thin films and coatings. The TFS Fellowship may be gained through either a technical contribution or through managerial or entrepreneurial skills which have led to recognition in these fields, or through other routes which have contributed to the work and objectives of the Society. Sam ZHANG Shanyong

Distinguished Professor, School of Aeronautics, Harbin Institute of Technology, China Prof Sam Zhang is the President of Thin Films Society. He is the Fellow of Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (UK) and Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (UK).  Prof Zhang’s research interests include preparation and characterization of hard and yet tough ceramic nanocomposite coatings, functional thin films, biological coatings, drug delivery for and coatings for clean energy. He has published 12 books, published over 290 papers, H index over 47. Prof Zhang serves as the Editor-in-Chief for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Letters (NNL), Principal editor for Journal of Materials Research (JMR) and Associate Editor (Materials Science): Advanced Science Letters, Editorial Board Member: Surface and Coatings Technology, and the Series Editor of the Book Series on “Advances in Materials Science and Engineering” with CRC Press, etc.

ZHANG Xueji

Vice President of Shenzhen University, Professor, University of Science & Technology, Beijing Prof. Xueji Zhang is also professor at Univ. of Sci. & Technol Beijing, and Executive President of National Institute of Precision Medicine & Health, Beijing. His lab focuses on the development of intelligent sensors, wearable sensors, novel biosensors, tools and devices, as well as investigations in drug delivery, new energy and natural medicines. He serves as the chief editor of RCS Sensors & Diagnostics, Am J of Biomed Sci and has been editorial member of 25 international journals. Prof. Zhang has received numerous national and international awards and honors including Member European Academy of Sciences, Member of Russian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of American Institute for Medical & Bioengineering, Fellow of Royal Chemical Society, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Medal, Huawei Outstanding Contribution Medal, National Innovation Pioneer Award, China, Outstanding contribution Award of Chemical Sensors, China, Scientist of Year in China, Outstanding Engineer in China, and Simon Fellow of ICSC-World Lab. He is elected as top scientist in the world by Stanford University from 2019-2015. Prof. Zhang is named as top 0.05% scientist by Scholar GPS, ranked No.5 in Biomedical Engineering, No. 7 in Biosensors, No. 753 in All fields in the world respectively in 2025. He has authored over 800 papers with 50,000 citations and H index of 113, and 8 books and over 200 patents and developed numerous sensors and instruments for commercialization.

LI Changming

Dean & Professor, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, China Prof. Chang Ming Li serves as member of Advisory Board for Nanoscales (RSC), Joule (Cell) and Chief Editor of Materials Report: Energy. He has been awarded the fellow of American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, the Fellow of RSC, the Foreign Fellow of Russian Academy of Engineering, and the Foreign Fellow of European Academy of Science. received several prestigious awards such as National Science and Technology Award of China, Medical Science and Technology Awards of China, Motorola Master Innovator Award and Nanyang Innovation and Research Award. His research interests are functional materials, green energies and biosensors/lab-on-chips. He has published 900+ peer-reviewed journal papers, 8 book chapters and holds 381 patents with 60,000+ citations/H-index of 114. Since 2004 he has been the World’s Most Highly Cited Researcher.

WUU, Dong-Sing

President & Chair Professor National Chi Nan University, Taiwan Prof. Dong-Sing Wuu is the fellows of Institute of Physics (FinstP), Australian Institute of Energy (FAIE) and The Institute of Engineering (FIET), as well as SPIE and OSA. His current research interests include wide bandgap semiconductor materials and devices, thin film deposition and processing, optoelectronics, IoT sensing. He has published over 260 SCI Journal papers, and 4 book chapters, and 11,000 citations, H index ~45. He has been awarded of 40 United States patents and 105 Taiwan patents, of which, in total, 30 patents have been transferred to companies. Prof. Wuu was the recipient of the distinguished Research Award (in photonic field) in 2009 and the Excellent Technology Transfer Awards in 2006, 2010 and 2011 of the National Science Council of Taiwan. Prof. Wuu received the 2015 Annual National Teacher’s Award from Ministry of Education (Taiwan) and 2017 Distinguished Professor Award from Chinese Institute of Engineers.

Takashi Goto

New Industry Creation Hatchery Center, Tohoku University, Japan State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing, Wuhan University of Technology, China Prof. Takashi Goto is a fellow of the American Ceramic Society and the Ceramic Society of Japan and an academician of the World Academy of Ceramics and the Asia Pacific Academy of Materials. He is president of the International Ceramic Federation (ICF) and general editor/editor-in-chief of Journal of Asian Ceramic Societies and an associate editor of Materials Letters. His research interest is material manufacturing by CVD, spark plasma sintering and melt growth. Prof. Takashi Goto has published more than 940 papers on sintering, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and melt growth of ceramics, citation above 15,000 and D-index above 55.

ZHU Jiaqi

Professor, School of Astronautics, Harbin Institute of Technology, China Prof. Zhu Jiaqi is the chairman of the Key Laboratory of Heilongjiang education ministry. Prof. Zhu’s research team have published more than 200 papers in high-level academic journals such as Science and Advanced Materials. The relevant works have successfully achieved good industrialization with 82 invention patents granted. He was awarded “First Prize of National Defense Science and Technology Progress” “Gold Award of the 23rd China Patent Award” and “Gold Award of the 1st Heilongjiang Patent Award” “Defense Technology Innovation Team His research interests are in the field of diamond crystals and devices, thermal interface composites, aircraft transparent window materials and functional films.

HAO Xiao-tao

Vice Director of Academic Committee, Professor, School of Physics, Shandong University, China Prof. Hao Xiao-Tao is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP, FInstP) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in the UK. He is also recognized as a Taishan Distinguished Professor in Shandong Province. His research interests include organic semiconductor physics and device physics, Femtosecond laser spectroscopy and microscopy, and organic solar cells. He has published over 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals, which have garnered more than 14,000 citations, resulting in an h-index of 58. Additionally, he holds 7 patents and has delivered more than 50 invited lectures at international conferences and workshops. Prof. Hao serves as the Regional Vice President of the Thin Films Society, Associate Editor of the Chinese Journal of Chemistry and editorial member of Scientific Reports and ChemPhysMater. He has received several awards and honors, including the Asia-Oceania Photochemistry Association Award (APA Award), the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Research Fellowship (SPS Fellowship), the CSJ Distinguished Lectureship Award from the Chemical Society of Japan, Natural Science Award in Shandong Province, etc.

SU Pei-Chen

Associate Professor (Tenured), School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Cluster Director, Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N); Vice President, Thin Films Society. Professor Pei Chen Su is an internationally recognized leader in thin film technology and advanced materials for energy and sustainable manufacturing. Her research delivers breakthroughs in functional coatings for solid oxide cells and additive manufacturing. She has authored over 90 articles in premier journals and holds multiple international patents, with micro solid oxide fuel cell technology licensed to a Korean startup and a spin off in formation. As Vice President of the Thin Films Society since 2022, she initiated its webinar series and significantly expanded its flagship conference, growing the number of symposia from 12 in 2024 to 19 in 2026. She also chairs the Technical Committee of WHEC 2026 and co chairs ThinFilms2026 in Singapore. Professor Su serves as a Foundational Research C capability Team Member of Singapore’s National Research Foundation. Her contributions have been recognized with the competitive NRF Central Gap Fund and inclusion in IOPScience’s “20 Pioneering Women in Applied Physics (Fuel Cells).” Through her research excellence, entrepreneurial impact, and dedicated service, Professor Su embodies the spirit of the Thin Films Society Fellowship.
